My father sat down with the Premier of PEI for 4 hours the other day to talk about this issue. The end result of that talk, my parents are allowed to put in a holding tank that they’re allowed to keep there for an unlimited amount of time until they can either afford to put in their own septic system or they’re able to get on the city system. Someone is suppose to be coming by on Sunday or Monday (this week) to see where it’s going, and if they don’t need to do too much moving of things to put it in, they could have something in that day - or it might be sometime next week that they’ll get something put in.

I can’t believe that it took the Premier getting involved to get this resolved so my parents could keep their house. That’s just nuts. But the good thing is that it is resolved and now they’re just waiting to get the holding tank put in… then they can have their life back.

I just received an update from my Mom. She said that the person who initially came out to the house from the Health Department has sat down with his boss, and the guys at the Environment Department to find out their reasoning behind not allowing them to go ahead with their proposal. Apparently, they just don’t want anyone using any type of grey water system and a composting toilet at all. (yet the toilets are approved for sale in the province and are available in stores) They are however, saying now that they’re willing to allow my parents to use a holding tank until such time that my parents either sell their home, save up enough money for a new system or are able to get on to the city’s system. My parents want this holding tank to be for an unlimited amount of time that they can use it, and no one will come after them for it. The health guy told my father, who talked to him, that that shouldn’t be a problem. My father has asked for this in writing. My parents aren’t holding their breathe on this with the amount of stone walling they have gotten since the beginning of the summer, but it would be nice if this came through for them.
